While
using the method of orthogonal intersections, I came across a line of
research into new sculptures in which physical realty almost
automatically produces new hitherto unexplored forms.
This is the exact logical course that leads to the birth of this latest
generation of sculptures.
Today
everyone knows how an electrocardiogram works - a pen moves rapidly up
and down over a piece of paper in a horizontal direction. But the
tracing represent the combination of two simultaneous movements that are
perpendicular to each other. If these two movements are replaced by two
harmonic motions (regular oscillations as in a pendulum), very strange,
regular figures appear on the paper. The formation of one figure rather
than another depends on the characteristics of the two harmonic motions
and the moment at which each starts with respect to the other.
Considering
the enormous potential of the orthogonal intersection method, I
could not fail to realise the incredible opportunity of intersecting
in space lines which in turn are generated on a plane by the orthogonal
intersection of two harmonic motions.
In
my opinion, the results of this clear-cut operation are full of allure.
